Designing with Food

March 3, 2013

MA Design went over to Robin Rea’s at the Rusty Pig a small family run business that is based in Ottery St Mary, Devon. They source their pigs from their own small holding and local farms where pigs are fed a natural diet and roam freely. Rusty Pig was started by Robin Rea in 2011. Robin has worked long stints at some serious restaurants and is currently a senior chef at River Cottage HQ. He has always been passionate about food and travel.

Design can be inspired by many things including food, how its reared, prepared and served but also how a small business can use design ideas to help keep it remaining sustainable and use a circular economy to keep the business feasible and have fun at the same time.

We hope to continue to work with Robin particularly in relation to the Design and Business and Sustainable Futures modules. Both these elements of MA Design at Plymouth University use ideas of local and global issues in live situations and test how design can input to business by creating both unique experiences and delivering for the individual, memorable and pleasurable
surroundings. Watch this space ...
